Cyprus’ securities regulator has reminded crypto‑asset service providers operating in the country that they must submit licensing applications under the EU’s Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) by Feb. 27, 2026.
In an updated notice following its Oct. 17, 2024 announcement and Circular No. 674, the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission said providers operating under national rules may continue their activities until their application is approved or rejected, or until the end of the transition period on July 1, 2026 — whichever comes first.
Providers that fail to apply by the deadline must submit a wind‑down plan, as they will no longer be permitted to offer crypto‑asset services after the transition period.
Continuing operations beyond July 1, 2026 will require a MiCA license.
CySEC also reminded firms that cross‑border services to other EU member states are allowed only where national legislation permits and where a grandfathering regime has been adopted, in line with ESMA guidance.
Crypto‑asset service providers listed in the national register remain subject to all obligations under both domestic rules and EU Regulation 2023/1113.
The regulator said a smooth transition to the MiCA framework is essential for strengthening trust, transparency and security in the crypto‑asset market.
