During President Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to Akaki, a group of residents staged a symbolic protest advocating for a northern route connection to the western Nicosia road, opposing the approved southern alignment.
Fifteen members of the Akaki–Peristerona–Astromeritis residents’ initiative briefly spoke with the president and handed him a letter outlining their position.
The group expressed concerns that the southern route could provide a pretext for Turkish expansion of the buffer zone. They emphasized the need for infrastructure that promotes regional development rather than encirclement.
