Alexei Kartzgor, a 47-year-old Israeli citizen of Russian descent, will remain in custody in Cyprus until November 14, when his next court hearing is scheduled.
The Larnaca District Court began extradition proceedings Monday following his arrest on Saturday at the Port of Larnaca. Kartzgor was detained under an international arrest warrant issued by Russian authorities via Interpol.
According to Israeli media, Kartzgor is allegedly linked to an old case involving the hijacking of a cargo ship in the Baltic Sea. He arrived in Cyprus by sea, reportedly unaware of the outstanding warrant.
