Cyprus has already mapped out its next steps with Central Asian countries following a regional tour, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said in an interview published Sunday.
Speaking to the newspaper O Phileleftheros tis Kyriakis, Kombos said Central Asia is “a region of particular importance for us,” adding that Cyprus must work to safeguard its own interests.
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are often viewed as lying within Turkey’s sphere of influence.
Kombos said that with countries where “serious problems may arise,” it is essential to create conditions for dialogue.
He said progress made with Kazakhstan now serves as a reference point for Cyprus’ engagement with other states in the region.
