FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Tashkent Nature Park, known for its work on nature and animal welfare in northern Cyprus, is looking for new homes for stray donkeys.
According to preliminary studies, approximately 200 donkeys in the north are up for adoption.
Although there are an estimated 3,000 stray donkeys in the Karpaz region, it is emphasized that every life saved will make a positive contribution to nature and animal welfare.
The growing population of stray donkeys in the Karpaz region has led to conflicts with local farmers and residents.
The donkeys, seen as symbols of tourism, caused significant damage to crops and posed risks on roads.
This sparked debates on how to manage the population effectively, with some residents calling for measures like fencing them in specific areas. Tragically, an incident occurred where 14 wild donkeys were shot dead near the Dipkarpaz landfill, causing outrage among animal rights groups and the public.
Organizations like Tashkent Nature Park played a key role in seeking sustainable solutions to balance the needs of both the donkeys and the local communities.
