A group of Cyprus‑based climbers successfully reached the north summit of Mount Aragats in Armenia, at 4,090 meters, the country’s highest peak and a national symbol.
Alexander Larin and Mikhail Omelchuk raised the Cypriot flag at the summit, took commemorative photos and left engraved stones brought from Cyprus as a gesture of friendship between the two nations. One participant said unusually heavy snow and dense fog made access to the summit cross impossible.
A second two‑member team — Andrey Kogun and Peresvet Larin — reached the south summit at 3,879 meters. Thirteen‑year‑old Peresvet Larin became the youngest Cyprus resident to climb a peak above 3,879 meters.
The mission was presented as a symbol of the strong historical ties between Cyprus and Armenia. President Nikos Christodoulides has repeatedly highlighted the close relationship between the two countries and the role of the Armenian community in Cyprus.
Participants said the expedition aimed to strengthen friendship between the peoples of Cyprus and Armenia, promote active tourism, encourage mountaineering and inspire young people to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.
