The government will allocate more than four million euros this year for wildfire‑prevention measures ahead of the fire season.
The decision was made during a meeting between Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, the Nicosia District Administration and community council representatives. The funds will be used for vegetation clearing and the creation of firebreaks.
Ioannou said an additional one million euros will be directed toward clearing overgrown areas near forested zones.
He added that all communities across Cyprus have updated the “Polyvios Plan,” in cooperation with Civil Defence, to ensure proper coordination in the event of a wildfire.
