Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides praised the expanding strategic relationship between Cyprus and the United States during a reception hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
He said bilateral ties strengthened further with the launch of the Strategic Dialogue in October 2024 and have since deepened in defense, security, energy, innovation, education and other fields. Christodoulides noted the presence of U.S. companies in Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone and major American investments on the island, adding that more positive announcements are expected by the end of June.
He also pointed to growing cooperation in education and rising interest among Cypriots in studying in the United States, reaffirming Cyprus’s commitment to joining the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.
The president underscored the importance of closer EU–U.S. relations, saying this was a key priority of the Cypriot EU Presidency.
On the Cyprus issue, he thanked Washington for its consistent support for reunification efforts and for a comprehensive, lasting settlement based on international law, UN Security Council resolutions and EU principles.
Christodoulides also praised Ambassador Julie Davis and former Ambassador Daniel Mangis for their contributions to strengthening Cyprus–U.S. relations.
