Cyprus Plans New Housing Scheme for Refugee Communities

Cyprus’s Interior Ministry is preparing a new housing plan that would allow apartment buildings to be constructed on unused state‑owned plots inside refugee settlements, offering affordable rents for displaced families.

Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou announced the initiative during the first meeting of the newly constituted Parliamentary Committee on Refugees.

Ioannou presented a review of policies implemented over the past three and a half years and heard committee members outline their priorities for the new parliamentary term.

He said empty plots within settlements will be identified, after which detailed plans for the construction of apartment buildings will be presented. The proposal remains at an early stage of development.
