The number of registered unemployed in Cyprus dropped in September, with notable declines across key sectors including trade, construction, and manufacturing, according to data released Monday by the Statistical Service.

On the last day of September, 7,624 individuals were registered as unemployed at District Labour Offices, down from 11,556 in August.

Seasonally adjusted figures, which account for recurring patterns in employment data, showed a decrease to 9,711 from 10,053 the previous month.

Compared to September 2024, unemployment fell by 518 individuals, or 6.4%. Officials attributed the year-on-year decline to improvements in wholesale and retail trade, financial and insurance activities, and a reduction in the number of newcomers entering the labor market.

The largest sectoral decreases were recorded in construction, which fell to 419 unemployed persons from 534 a year earlier, and manufacturing, which dropped to 453 from 527. Unemployment in accommodation and food services also declined, while the number of job seekers in public administration and education saw sharp month-to-month fluctuations.

The Statistical Service noted that the seasonally adjusted data are recalculated monthly using Eurostat’s JDemetra+ software, which may result in revisions to previous estimates.

The figures reflect individuals aged 15 and over who are actively seeking full-time employment and registered with local labor offices. Part-time job seekers and self-employed individuals are not included in the totals.
