Cyprus’s Ministry of Transport has said that the Cyprus Public Transport company acted unilaterally and in breach of its contract when it announced plans to suspend the Pame Express service.

In a statement, the ministry said it has already sent a letter instructing the operator to withdraw its intention to halt the service and to comply fully with its contractual obligations. Officials said they are monitoring the situation and will take all steps provided for in the agreement “to ensure the smooth operation of public passenger transport and the service of the traveling public.”

The dispute comes at a time when Cyprus is working to expand and modernize its public‑transport network, with the government under pressure to improve reliability and reduce congestion in major urban centers. Pame Express, introduced as a rapid‑connection service, has been promoted as part of that effort.

The ministry did not specify what prompted the company’s decision or whether penalties may follow if the operator fails to reverse course.
