Government employment in Cyprus reached 55,331 people in February, a rise of 35 workers, or 0.1%, compared with the same month last year, the Statistical Service said Wednesday.
Employment fell by 0.9% in the Civil Service and 0.5% in the Security Forces, while the Education Service recorded a 1.8% increase.
Across the government, the largest rise was among indefinite‑term employees, up 1.6% from February 2025. The biggest drop was among fixed‑term staff, down 0.9%. The most pronounced changes were seen in the Education Service, where indefinite‑term staff increased by 25.2%, and in the Security Forces, where fixed‑term staff fell by 85.4%.
The sharp decline in fixed‑term personnel in the Security Forces was mainly due to the completion and non‑renewal of specific contracts in July 2025, the agency said.
For January–February 2026, average government employment rose 0.3% compared with the same period in 2025.
