NICOSIA — Women from both sides of Cyprus are participating in a month-long tree and seed planting initiative throughout September in the island’s buffer zone, according to reports from Haravgi and other local outlets.

The activities are part of the EU-funded “Cyprus Women Environmental Peacemakers” (CWEP) project, which brings together women from Northern Cyprus and the Republic of Cyprus to promote environmental cooperation and peacebuilding.

The initiative began with the symbolic planting of a single olive tree in the garden of the UN building in Pyla, followed by a press conference at Ledra Palace.

Speakers included Petra Terzi, president of the Women in Cinema and Television Association, and Münevver Ebedi, head of the Lefke Environmental and Promotion Association.

“We are transforming the buffer zone into a shared and vibrant space for everyone,” Terzi said. Ebedi added, “These activities are not merely symbolic—they are simple steps toward peace.”

A seminar is scheduled for September 22–23 at Ledra Palace, with participation from academics, activists, and members of bicommunal technical committees.
