A new direct passenger train linking the capitals of Estonia and Latvia has launched, marking a significant step forward in cross‑border travel across the Baltic region.
Operated jointly by Estonia’s state‑owned Elron and Latvia’s Pasazieru Vilciens, the route connects Tallinn and Riga via Tartu without requiring passengers to change trains.
The direct link reduces travel hassle and shortens journey times.
The trip from Tartu to Riga takes three hours and 41 minutes, while the full Tallinn–Riga journey lasts about five hours and 56 minutes.
In Latvia, the train stops in Valga, Valmiera, Cesis and Sigulda before terminating at Riga Central Railway Station. Latvian drivers operate the train on the section from Valga to Riga.
