FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus police are investigating whether a series of attacks on delivery workers are linked to organized groups selling protection services, in addition to potential racist motives, Justice Minister Marios Charchiotis said during a parliamentary committee discussion on human rights.
Charchiotis cited reports suggesting that a group of Indian nationals may have formed a network offering protection to fellow countrymen. Authorities are examining these claims but stress that definitive conclusions require further evidence.
The discussion took place amid concerns over rising hate speech and racist violence, following a European Commission report on the implementation of the EU’s anti-racism action plan for 2020-2025.
