Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and his wife have toured the ceasefire line in old Nicosia with the Dutch royal couple.
Speaking to journalists, the President highlighted the significance of the royal couple’s first visit to Cyprus.
“The Netherlands is a country with which significant work has been done to strengthen our relations in recent years. Traditionally, there were not such strong ties, so their visit is an important message for our bilateral relations and for promoting our country as a tourist destination,” he said.
He emphasized that all foreign dignitaries visiting Cyprus are shown the buffer zone in old Nicosia.
“It is very different to read about this situation and to see it in person. The King mentioned the parallel with the Berlin Wall, East and West Berlin,” the President noted.
The President said he considers it crucial for all foreign leaders to witness the situation firsthand.
