Temperatures in parts of eastern Turkey fell to minus 14 degrees Celsius overnight, freezing lakes and streams and coating the region in heavy frost, local media reported Sunday.
In Kars’ Sarıkamış district, trees and plants were covered in rime, icicles formed on rooftops and the windows of homes, shops and vehicles froze over.
Residents covered their cars with blankets to protect them from the cold.
Municipal crews removed icicles from buildings along main streets to prevent accidents.
In neighboring Ardahan, temperatures dropped to minus 13 degrees, causing widespread icing.
Higher elevations in the province were blanketed in snow.
