At least eight people were killed and 40 others injured when a container truck collided with a tractor pulling a trailer full of Hindu pilgrims in northern India, police said Monday.
The crash occurred on a major highway near the village of Ghatal in Uttar Pradesh, about 90 kilometers southwest of the capital, New Delhi, according to news agency ANI.
Among the dead were two women and a child, a local police official confirmed.
The pilgrims were en route to a Hindu temple in Rajasthan, a journey of roughly 450 kilometers. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
