Eighteen Cypriot antiquities that were found for sale in an online auction were handed over to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington on Feb. 23 for repatriation.
According to Cyprus’s Department of Antiquities, the items were withdrawn from sale after officials contacted the auction house.
The artifacts include pottery from the Early and Middle Bronze Age and the Cypro‑Archaic period, as well as a limestone head from a male statue dating to the 4th century B.C.
In its statement, the Department of Antiquities thanked Sloans, the auction house involved, for its cooperation.
