FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently announced a rural development plan, pledging 18.5 billion Turkish liras ($487 million) in support through budget allocations, credit, and co-financing from international organizations.

The initiative aims to invest 25 billion liras in rural areas, creating 10,000 jobs, with an additional 37 billion liras in grants for farmers over the next five years starting in 2025.

Experts emphasized the need for environmental sustainability and comprehensive planning to ensure the plan’s success.

They highlighted challenges such as drought, soil degradation, and the excessive use of chemical fertilizers.

Support for small-scale producers and timely debt resolution were also identified as critical factors for sustainable agricultural growth.
