The song that will represent Cyprus at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has been released.
Cypriot artist Theo Evan, who was selected through an internal process at CyBC, will take the stage in Basel, Switzerland.
Evan has been a singer and dancer since the age of 7 and a songwriter since his teens.
Born in Nicosia, Theo spent his early years taking dance lessons, singing in his school choir, and performing in various theatrical productions and talent shows across Cyprus.
He frequently won awards and distinctions for his efforts.
Cyprus in Eurovision
Cyprus made its debut at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with the song “Monika” performed by the group Island, finishing in sixth place.
Since then, Cyprus has participated in the contest 40 times, achieving its best result in 2018 when Eleni Foureira placed second in Lisbon with her hit “Fuego”.
Despite this success, Cyprus has yet to secure a win and holds the record for the most editions competing without a victory.
Over the years, Cyprus has experienced both highs and lows in the competition.
Between 2006 and 2013, the country failed to qualify from the semi-final round six times and withdrew from the contest in 2014 due to public indifference and budget restrictions. However, Cyprus returned to the contest in 2015 and has since qualified for the final every year except for 2022.
Cyprus has also contributed memorable performances and show openers, such as Hara and Andreas Konstantinou’s “Mana Mou” in 1997, ONE’s “Gimme” in 2002, and Eleni Tsagrinou’s “El Diablo” in 2021.
The country’s entries have been performed in various languages, including Greek, English, French, and Italian.
In 2024, Silia Kapsis represented Cyprus with her song “Liar,” continuing the tradition of strong performances.
