FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Monday authorizing the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to support efforts in managing protests that erupted following mass immigration enforcement operations.
Senior officials, speaking anonymously, indicated that the deployment might be delayed by a day or two as the order was just signed. Meanwhile, 700 Marines were dispatched from the Twentynine Palms base to protect federal buildings and personnel, according to U.S. Northern Command.
Trump’s decision sparked strong reactions. California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the move as “dangerous” and “insulting to our troops,” arguing that it was driven by the “ego of a reckless president” rather than public safety. He called for the immediate withdrawal of the troops, labeling the decision a serious violation of state sovereignty.
