FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – European Union countries have reached a preliminary agreement to lift all economic sanctions on Syria, diplomatic sources said Tuesday.
Ambassadors from the EU’s 27 member states approved the measure, which is expected to be formally announced after foreign ministers meet in Brussels later in the day.
The decision aims to support Syria’s reconstruction following the ouster of longtime president Bashar al-Assad in December. The United States has also lifted its sanctions on the country.
