Cyprus: SBA Police make 34 arrests during Christmas Operation Dasher

Police in the Western Sovereign Base Areas arrested 34 people over the Christmas and New Year period as part of Operation Dasher, a targeted campaign aimed at boosting community safety during one of the busiest times of the year.

The operation focused on priority offences, including theft, drug‑related crime, serious traffic violations and youth criminality. Akrotiri Chief Inspector Tony Demetriou, who led the effort, said maintaining a strong and visible police presence was essential during peak holiday periods.

“It is vital that our communities feel safe during busy periods such as Christmas, and we are immensely proud of the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by our officers throughout this operation,” he said.

Demetriou said high‑visibility patrols and coordinated enforcement not only addressed criminal activity but also reassured residents and acted as a deterrent in residential areas.

He added that SBA Police will continue working with partner agencies and the public to strengthen community safety throughout the year.
