The EU will lift sanctions against Syria’s banks, energy sector and transport industry over the weekend, according to several sources.
The goal of removing the sanctions is to contribute to the reconstruction of Syria, after the country’s long-time president Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December.
The new Syrian leadership has long urged the West to ease sanctions against the country.
