President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized EU unity as essential for strengthening deterrence and ending the war in Ukraine.
At the extraordinary European Council, Christodoulides praised the focus on EU defense and security.
Christodoulides welcomed European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s letter, agreeing on the need to bolster EU deterrent capabilities.
He also criticized Turkey’s involvement in meetings without all EU member states, stressing that it undermines unity.
“The EU must lead efforts for Ukraine’s independence and integrity,” he said.
Concerns remain over achieving a unified stance against Russia amidst differing opinions within the EU.
