Farmers’ groups and trade unions are holding a protest in Nicosia on Saturday against the proposed free‑trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur bloc.
The demonstration is scheduled for 11:00 outside the House of Europe on Lord Byron Avenue. It is organised by agricultural organisations along with several union bodies and other groups.
They argue the agreement with the Latin American countries threatens the viability of Cypriot producers, food safety standards and traditional products such as halloumi. They are calling for the deal to be rejected.
