Finland: Finn’s give big thumbs up to Stubb, survey shows

Finland’s president Alexander Stubb has received an impressive score from the public this week, with a near-perfect grade of 7.98 out of 10.

This evaluation comes from a survey commissioned by Yle, the state radio, and Taloustutkimus, conducted to mark the one-year anniversary of Stubb’s tenure, which began in early March, 2024.

The survey took place from February 10 to 12 and included 1,108 respondents.

Radio Finland notes that in a previous survey conducted in July, Stubb earned a score of 8.04 after serving six months in office, showing his rating has remained relatively stable since then.

Breaking down the latest results, 11 percent of respondents awarded Stubb a perfect score of 10, while 27 percent gave him a 9 and 33 percent rated him an 8.

Who is Alexander Stubb?

Stubb’s political career began as a researcher specializing in European Union affairs.

He was elected to the European Parliament in 2004 as a member of the National Coalition Party.

In 2008, he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, and in 2011, he was elected to the Finnish Parliament. Stubb served as Minister for European Affairs and Trade before becoming Prime Minister of Finland in 2014. He later held the position of Minister of Finance and served as Vice-President of the European Investment Bank. In 2024, Stubb was inaugurated as the 13th President of Finland.
