French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot arrived in Greenland this weekend following a European Union foreign ministers’ meeting in Copenhagen, underscoring growing diplomatic ties between France and the Arctic territory.
Barrot is scheduled to meet Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt in Nuuk on Sunday, marking their second meeting in recent weeks.
Motzfeldt previously met with Barrot in Paris as part of a diplomatic tour aimed at promoting Greenland’s international interests.
She also held talks with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas in Brussels.
The visit comes amid heightened geopolitical interest in Greenland, where European leaders have expressed support for the island’s autonomy and strategic importance.
