An Israeli reservist was killed Saturday during fighting in the southern city of Khan Younis, following injuries to seven other soldiers in the area.
The soldier, 34, was the 900th Israeli military fatality since the war began in October 2023.
Preliminary findings suggest the death may have been caused by friendly fire. Investigators believe the soldier was struck by a bullet accidentally discharged by another member of the unit.
He had immigrated from Brazil a decade ago and lived in northern Israel with his wife and infant son. His death came just one day before he was scheduled to complete his final reserve tour, with his family preparing for a trip abroad.
The incident adds to mounting tolls in the conflict, which has left tens of thousands dead and displaced across the region.
