FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Former U.S. Representative George Santos was sentenced last week to 87 months in prison for aggravated identity theft and wire fraud. U.S. District Judge Joanna Seybert ordered Santos to surrender by July 25 and pay more than $373,000 in restitution and $200,000 in forfeiture.

Santos pleaded guilty to 23 federal felony counts in August 2024. He served less than a year in Congress before being expelled in December 2023 over lies, scandals, and campaign finance allegations.

“This is a just ending for a weaver of lies who believed he was above the law,” said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly. Santos is the third House member expelled since the Civil War.
