FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Boeing and NASA say that work on the X-66A Sustainable Flight Demonstrator project has been paused.
While the overall aircraft project is on hold, Boeing will continue studying the thin-wing technology.
Launched in 2023, the project aimed to explore fuel-efficient and sustainable aircraft designs.
NASA committed $425 million to the project, with Boeing and industry partners contributing $725 million.
Test flights were initially planned for 2028 and 2029.
Boeing stated that lessons from the X-66A program will shape future airplane designs.
Engineers from the project will be reassigned to Boeing’s 777X and 737 MAX production lines.
