Greek Navy Frigate Joins Cyprus–Greece Search‑and‑Rescue Drill as Regional Tensions Rise

A Hellenic Navy frigate stationed in Cyprus took part in a joint Cyprus–Greece search‑and‑rescue exercise, officials said, as regional tensions continue to escalate.

The frigate Kimon participated in the “Salamis” drill, held within the maritime area of the Republic of Cyprus, according to the Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Center. Helicopters from the National Guard and the Cyprus Police also joined the exercise.

Authorities said the drill was conducted under the existing bilateral agreement between Cyprus and Greece on search‑and‑rescue cooperation.

The exercise came as the wider region faces heightened instability.

In Iran, the Assembly of Experts has reportedly reached a consensus on a successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, though officials say obstacles remain.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces have warned they may target any future successors, and U.S.–Israeli strikes have hit oil depots inside Iran, triggering multiple explosions.

Attacks linked to the conflict have also been reported across the Gulf, including a drone strike on a government building in Kuwait that sparked a major fire overnight.
