Greenland Confirms It Will Join U.S.–Denmark Meeting Next Week

Greenland’s government said Wednesday it will take part in next week’s planned meeting between Denmark and the United States.

“Nothing about Greenland without Greenland. Of course we will participate. We were the ones who requested the meeting,” Greenland’s foreign minister, Vivian Motzfeldt said.

She said she will represent Greenland at the talks.

Motzfeldt told the Greenlandic newspaper Sermitsiaq that the government wants clarification from Washington. “We would like answers on why the United States found it necessary to make such aggressive statements, so we don’t end up talking past each other. We are friends and allies,” she said.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the meeting — which Denmark will also attend — will take place next week. The exact date and location have not been announced.
