UN Secretary‑General António Guterres said he will continue working toward a settlement of the Cyprus issue until the final day of his mandate.
In an interview with Turkey’s NTV during his visit to Ankara, Guterres said he is “working very intensively” on the problem.
“I wouldn’t say we are very close,” he noted, “but we have made positive progress and have restarted contacts.”
He added that he is neither optimistic nor pessimistic, but determined to pursue a solution.
Guterres’ second term as secretary‑general ends on Dec. 31, 2026.
