FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A major heat wave is sweeping across the eastern United States this week, with authorities warning of dangerously high temperatures affecting approximately 150 million people from South Dakota to Florida and up to Boston.
On Monday, heat indexes in North and South Carolina and across much of Florida were forecast to reach as high as 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 Celsius).
Similar conditions are expected in parts of the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Meteorologists warn that high humidity may intensify the perceived heat, a phenomenon referred to as the “feels-like” temperature.
