Hong Kong is among the world’s leading regions in artificial intelligence preparedness, according to a new UN Trade and Development report.
The 2025 Technology and Innovation Report assessed more than 100 economies on infrastructure, data and skills, with Hong Kong rated a leader in all three, said Our Hong Kong Foundation, which helped compile the study.
Lillian Cheong Man‑lei, under secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said Hong Kong will continue to act as a bridge between East and West and promote collaboration in the AI field.
The report projects the global AI market will reach $4.8 trillion by 2033, noting its potential to drive digital transformation alongside technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data and blockchain.
Alex Mak of OHKF said Hong Kong’s position as a link between mainland China and the wider world gives it unique advantages, suggesting the region could establish an international AI standards and certification platform.
