FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – As part of strict measures to prevent the introduction of illegal items into the Prisons Department, authorities discovered 14 mobile phones and 12 charging cables hidden in a small refrigerator.
The refrigerator, intended for a specific prisoner, was delivered to the Department’s electronics warehouse following an approved request to replace the old refrigerator in the inmate’s cell.
The items were found during a coordinated operation between the Prisons Department and the Police, who have taken over the investigation and begun taking statements.
The confiscated items will undergo scientific and other examinations, the Police said in a press release.
