Iran and European Powers Agree to Resume Nuclear Talks Next Week

Iran has reached a preliminary agreement with Britain, France, and Germany to resume negotiations over its nuclear program, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.

While the parties have agreed in principle to hold talks, the exact date and location remain undecided. The renewed diplomatic effort follows warnings from the three European nations that failure to return to the negotiating table could trigger the reimposition of international sanctions.

The talks are expected to focus on reviving the framework of the 2015 nuclear deal, which has been under strain since the United States withdrew in 2018. European officials have recently signaled that they may invoke the deal’s “snapback” mechanism by the end of August if progress is not made.

Iran has maintained that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes, but tensions escalated last month following military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites by Israel and the United States. The upcoming talks mark the first formal engagement between Iran and the European powers since that conflict.
