FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Japan has temporarily halted imports of poultry meat from Montenegro and live poultry from Rio Grande do Sul following a confirmed bird flu outbreak in Brazil.

The ban, effective since Friday, comes after Brazil, the world’s largest chicken exporter, reported its first poultry farm case of bird flu.

The outbreak has prompted trade restrictions from major buyers, including China, which enacted a countrywide ban.

Japan relies heavily on Brazilian poultry, with imports accounting for nearly 70% of its chicken supply.

Officials are monitoring the situation and assessing its impact on domestic markets.
