FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Long lines of vehicles and hours-long delays were reported at several checkpoints over the weekend, causing significant frustration, particularly among Turkish Cypriots attempting to enter the Republic-controlled areas, according to reports from Turkish Cypriot media outlets.

The situation, which persisted throughout both Saturday and Sunday, has drawn widespread criticism.

Many travelers attributed the delays to increased inspections at crossing points operated by the Republic of Cyprus, the reports said.

Contributing to the congestion, according to the same sources, were limited checkpoint infrastructure in the north and the overall low number of available crossings between the two sides.

While the issue appears technical in nature, some commentators in the Turkish Cypriot press suggested deeper causes, citing a lack of coordination, absence of political will, and unilateral practices as underlying factors.
