FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Climate Watch Advisory Group forecasts significantly low rainfall for the period from March 10 to March 21, 2025, in the eastern Mediterranean region and Cyprus.
This 12-day dry spell will result in unusually low precipitation levels for the season.
Weekly climate simulations by the German Meteorological Service (DWD), in collaboration with French and Russian Meteorological Services, confirm a trend of reduced precipitation and potential drought. The affected areas, including Cyprus, are expected to receive less than 10mm of rainfall, with some areas seeing no rainfall at all.
The Department of Meteorology reports that recent weeks’ dry conditions have left soil moisture and river levels low, impacting winter crop development and significantly reducing the natural water supply.
DWD’s Climate Watch operates on behalf of the WMO.
