FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – At the annual memorial held at Kykkos Monastery, Archbishop Georgios emphasized that the teachings and legacy of Archbishop Makarios are the only guiding principles that can lead Cyprus out of its current deadlock.
When asked whether those ideals still resonate today, the archbishop replied that the path of repeated concessions has failed to produce results.
He pointed to Makarios’ final message—that the Cyprus issue centers on invasion, occupation, and human rights—and stressed the need to stay true to that vision.
“That’s the way out of the mire,” Georgios said, “and the only way Hellenism will remain rooted on this land.”
