FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A widespread power outage left large parts of Spain and Portugal without electricity on Monday, disrupting transportation and daily life across the Iberian Peninsula.
Spain’s electricity grid operator, Red Electrica, confirmed the blackout and said it was working to restore power while investigating the cause. “All resources are being dedicated to solving it,” the company said in a post on X.
The outage, which began at 12:30 p.m. local time, brought Spain’s national railway network to a standstill. Renfe, the national railway operator, reported that trains were halted and no departures were taking place at any stations. In Portugal, the blackout affected multiple cities, including Lisbon, causing widespread disruptions.
Efforts to restore electricity are ongoing, with authorities prioritizing critical infrastructure as they work to resolve the issue.
