FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Portuguese electricity operator Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN) has attributed the massive blackout affecting Spain and Portugal to extreme temperature fluctuations caused by a rare atmospheric phenomenon.
REN warned that it could take up to a week to fully restore the power grid.
The blackout, which began Monday, disrupted services across the Iberian Peninsula, halting train operations, cutting power to major cities, and leaving thousands without electricity.
REN said it is dedicating all resources to resolving the issue and stabilizing the grid.
Meanwhile, Spain’s electricity operator Red Electrica has yet to provide an explanation for the outage, as efforts to restore power continue.
