Meta has shut down the official Facebook and Instagram pages of ELAM following complaints, according to reports.

Alithia said the pages were removed after complaints filed by Greek Cypriots. ELAM has since appealed the decision to the Cyprus Police and the Commissioner for Communications, calling the shutdown “sudden and unjustified.”

Marios Pelekanos, head of ELAM’s Press and Communications Office, said the removal of the party’s official pages after a series of complaints amounted to a restriction of ELAM’s “right to political expression online.” He called for a full investigation and for the pages to be restored.

Pelekanos noted that ELAM is an elected party represented in both the Cypriot House of Representatives and the European Parliament, arguing that what he described as an attempt to “silence” the party could directly or indirectly influence the outcome of the upcoming general election.
