Almost 28% of Cyprus’ population fell into the low‑income category in 2024, according to figures released Wednesday by the island’s Statistical Service.
The report said 27.8% of residents were classified as low income, while 64.6% were in the middle‑income group and 7.6% in the high‑income bracket.
The national average income for 2024 was €20,666.
Low‑income households had an equivalent disposable income of €15,500 or less, compared with €23,517 for the middle‑income group and €51,316 for high‑income earners.
The middle‑income category is further divided into lower, middle and upper tiers, the paper noted.
The report also found that 14.6% of the population — about 139,930 people — were at risk of poverty.
Alithia, a daily newspaper, said this group forms part of the 267,557 people classified as low income, while 620,086 were in the middle‑income bracket and 73,055 in the high‑income group.
