The Dutch government announced Monday it will provide an extra €700 million ($812 million) in support for Ukraine next year, despite warning of budgetary limits.
According to a letter signed by the ministers of finance, defense and foreign affairs, €500 million will come from the Defense Ministry’s budget and €200 million from foreign affairs.
Since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022, the Netherlands has committed about €13.5 billion in military assistance and €3.5 billion in non-military support.
The ministers cautioned that freeing up further funding in 2026 would be difficult, saying “the financial reality is that we will reach our limits next year.”
The cabinet also emphasized the need to mobilize international financing for Ukraine, preferably through reconstruction loans based on immobilized Russian central bank assets.
