A 63‑year‑old Greek Cypriot inmate serving a life sentence was found dead in his cell at the Central Prisons, authorities said.
According to initial indications, the death may have been caused by cardiac arrest. The exact cause will be determined following a post‑mortem examination.
Prison officials immediately notified the Nicosia CID, and the inmate’s family was informed without delay.
The Prison Department said medical services were activated at once. Staff responded to the cell and administered first aid while an ambulance was called.
The inmate was transported to the Emergency Department at Nicosia General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
