Panama’s president states that the Panama Canal is and will remain under Panama’s control.
It comes in response to what President Donald Trump said in his inaugural address that he wants to take back the Panama Canal.
He called the surrender of the canal to Panama unjust and claimed that the United States is being treated poorly by Panama.
The fact is that American ships are not charged higher fees than ships from other countries, and that a Hong Kong-based company operates ports on both sides of the canal, but not the canal.
